FOOTBALL/CHEER SEASON FAQS

Q. Why do you have an attendance policy?

Football and cheer are team sports. Our programs require knowledgeable and well-conditioned participants for the entire team to succeed. If your child is not participating in practices, he/she will not be effective in the team environment. TYFC has an established vacation policy:

  • Attendance at August practice is MANDATORY, unless excused by the Head Coach (preferably in writing).
  • Unexcused absences at practice in excess of three (3) may cause the player to be dropped from the team.
  • Attendance at football games is MANDATORY. Unexcused absences for more than two (2) games will cause the participant to be dropped from the team.
  • CHEER PROGRAM ONLY: Attendance at cheer competitions is MANDATORY. Unexcused absences from a competition will cause the participant to be dropped from the team
  • Academic school functions have priority over TYFC practice or games. No player will be penalized in any form for participation in school-sponsored events. Cotillion is NOT an academic school-sponsored event.

Q. How can my child prepare for your football and/or cheer program?

We strongly recommend that your child begin to prepare for our programs by conditioning at least one month prior to the start date. We have pre-season conditioning sessions for both the tackle football and cheer program that take place on Saturdays beginning in March. Information on dates, times and locations will be posted on our website (torrance-panthers.com) and Instagram page (torrancepanthers).

Q. When will practices be held?

Practices will start August 1st. Time and location are TBD after team and coaches have been established, but are generally after 4:30pm. Communication will be emailed to all participants and also listed on the Torrance-panthers.com website for key dates for events.

Q. What time do players have to arrive for games?

Games are normally scheduled from the youngest team playing earliest (8am or 9am) and the older teams finishing out the day. We are a Southern California Conference (SCC) Pop Warner Association and away games may be scheduled at any of the participating associations in SCC.

Most teams arrive at least 1 hour prior to the start of a game to warm up and have equipment checked. Arrival times for a game are directed by the Head Coach and/or Team Parent.

Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from games.

Q. When and where are games held?

All games are held on Saturdays. Our first game of the season is generally at the end of August and runs every Saturday after. EXPECT TO HAVE A GAME ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND. Each team typically plays 6-8 games per season, not including playoff or championship games.
