FOOTBALL PROGRAM FAQS

 Q. When does the football season start?

Start Date: August 1st. The first 20 hours of practice are mandatory and especially critical as each player is required to meet specific conditioning and practice with pad requirements before they can participate in contact drills, scrimmages, and games.

The first 10 hours of practice for the season are non-contact. Each player is required to fulfill a 10-hour conditioning requirement before any contact can be initiated. The next 10-hours of practice is in full pads, with players being gradually introduced to contact.

Missing any time once practice starts can cause your athlete to fall behind. Please plan accordingly, and ensure that family vacations are not scheduled during this time. We strongly recommend that your child begin to prepare for this at least one month prior to the start date.

Q. How many days/hours are football practices?

Please keep in mind that football is a huge commitment. August practices are 10 hours per week and tend to be 5 days per week. After Labor Day, practices reduce to 3 days per week (2-2.5 hours per practice). Practice hours are considered the actual time players are practicing and conditioning. Time dedicated for water breaks is in addition to practice times.

All practices take place on the gated baseball field at Torrance Park. Parents are welcome to attend practices, but only badged TYFC staff and players are allowed to enter the field.

Q. How long does the football season run and how many games are there?

Each team typically plays 6-8 games per season, not including playoff or championship games that typically begin in early to mid-October.

Final games will be different for each team, depending on the advancement through the playoffs/championships. The football season typically ends mid - late November. Teams can also choose to continue playing after the season is over at Invitational and Bowl games hosted by other Associations.

A full schedule in advance of the season may not be possible. Please make sure you leave the entire day on each Saturday of the season available for play. Please make sure your lifestyle is conducive to making this type of commitment and that you can leave your schedule flexible throughout the ENTIRE season. TYFC will do everything in our capacity to provide as much advance notice as possible as to where and when teams will be playing. Note that teams may have a BYE week.
